About Little Ones Public School

L.O.P.S (Little Ones Public School), is an M.C.D recognised, Private Unaided Primary School in Saidulajaib Village near Saket Metro station in South Delhi. The little English-medium primary school which was founded in 1987 (Nursery to Class 5; 120 learners) and is located in a village in close proximity to Qutab Minar, stands tall despite its small footprint.

What differentiates this humble semi urban school from its neighbours – the large reputed schools just across the road, is not only the volunteering spirit of the founding family but, importantly, the small team of teachers who toil day after day to keep the school up and running. Amazing that during the pandemic when even large schools struggled to keep students learning this school succeeded in keeping their children engaged through online learning even when their families had migrated back to their native villages.

Shampa Chowdhury, the school principal, has this to say “difficult roads always lead to beautiful destinations. And my beautiful destination is my Little Ones Public School and these children. After twenty two years, I realize that actually it is from this very destination that I can achieve my lifetime goal. I really feel good”.

The mission of L.O.P.S says it all “It is to not only educate the child but also their family”. All of this seems incredible, considering 1 of every 4 students cannot afford to pay even the limited fees and studies free. Most parents of children in the school are drivers, gardeners, cooks, housemaids, scrap-sellers or work in small kirana stores.

An initial 8-month pilot program is in progress, covering, an after school study centre to bring “keen learners” upto speed in literacy and numeracy, build exposure through educational visits outside school, and financial support for selected “talented keen young learners”.
